LIVE WITH LESS: 'DON'T SERVE MONEY, BUT RATHER SERVE GOD.'

Would you serve this guy?
Jesus once said: 'you cannot serve two masters' ,It's either you will serve one and hate the other, but you can not serve both. You can not serve God and Mammon'. Do you wanna live a frugal life? Are you prepared to live with less to achieve your life meaning?

Who is Mammon?

Jesus was referring to that one thing that seems to make the world go round: 'money'.

If I had an advice to give to any 'career seeker’, it would go like this: 'Never work for the sole purpose of just making money.'
Because by doing so, you are killing the chances of achieving life’s fulfillments. If you are driven by the sole purpose of making money, then you will be inclined to accept any job or position just for the sake of having few dollars ( or whatever currency)  in your wallet.

The choice of just making money, explains why some people have decided to sacrifice what really matters (love, family, relationships, destiny, purpose, passion, time with God…) for the sake of acquiring more money. That’s why they work on Christmas, New Year ’s Day, public holidays, week-ends…They even work on their anniversaries and sometimes carry their work on bed through their laptops.

There is no point at being money driven if you don’t even have the time to look after your own health. It’s a pure waste of time…

What was Jesus meant by saying: ‘You can not both God and Mammon? You will serve one and hate the other.’?

Serving God means answering, responding and obeying to the life calling He gave you. That calling is your reason to exist. The calling God gave you , should be the main driver of your life. God’s calling does not only stick to a life occupation. God’s calling is a package. What I mean is that if He had called you to be a lawyer, He has also called you to be a family person, a husband, a wife, a father or a mother, a brother or a sister.
Too often, people limit God’s calling to their daily lucrative occupation. If God has given you the talent to be a journalist, He never intended it to be used 24/7. God also knows that you have family or social obligations, and He has also called you to fulfill those obligations.
God’s calling is a package. Don’t just limit it to your current lucrative work. So be that person that God wants you to be in the market place , while also being able to be a responsible father, a loving mother, a dedicated spouse, an honoring child, a comforting sibling, a great friend. Your whole life’s calling possess several areas that need to be attended without neglecting one single slice.
There is no need of being a great businessman but a negligent father…

On the other hand, when you serving Mammon (money), everything else becomes of less value. You will barely care to know what your job is, as long as you get money. It would not matter if you were selling drugs, selling yourself, or working at a job taking you away from your true calling. All you care about is money. But at the end of the tunnel, when you will have all the money that you needed, those most important things (your family, your true calling…) will depart from you. Simply because of you will have failed to pay attention to them. In spite of having money, a big empty hole will be left in your heart…

Do you know that you can make money by pursuing your true calling?

But the answer to this question belongs to another post…

Don’t serve money, serve God.
