HOW TO USE COMMON SENSE TO THE SERVICE OF FAITH

Through our spiritual growth in Christ, several inwards debates on whether we should prioritise common sense over faith, could arise and probably mess up our journey on the road to full purpose and destiny.  On this post, I have the answer  to the question:

'How do we match common sense and our faith in God?’

Christianity is an adventure. Contrarily to what many people think, it is not a boring and dull life. Christianity becomes a passion and a great journey  ,only from the moment we start hearing the voice of God instructing us on what our mission on Earth is.

Yep, God speaks. We just need to be attentive.

Each human being in Christ has been already programmed for a reason to live. Those reasons might vary from one to another. And the only person who knows best what those reasons are , is the programmer: ‘God’.

Pure science is still arguing the existence of God , simply because He is a Spirit Being and He can not be measured palpably. This post is not centred on debating the existence of God , but rather will focus on finding an instructive method or explanation on how our  common sense can match our Faith in God.

I have a little story that might help:

‘In a far away village (or township) located in South Africa, a young Christian man named Khaya, was told by God, that he had to become a medical  doctor in view to help communities and be able to financially support the cause of Christ in his local Church. But there was one big problem: ‘Khaya is from a poor background. His father left him when he was 7. His mother struggles to feed him and his two siblings, through a small peanut hawking business. Khaya’s family lives in a poorly constructed home, also called ‘djondolo’.

At first impression, it seems like the dream that God has given him, is too big to achieve.

He could not even afford the college fees to study medicine. But Khaya understood one thing: ‘turn your human thinking into God’s thinking. In other words, your thinking must approve what God thinks of you and follow through.’ (Romans 12:1-4)

Khaya eventually took the courage to follow God’s voice, registered for college, was eligible for a bursary and five years later became a successful medical surgeon.

What can we learn from it?

There are two types of common sense:

1.Common sense that stands against God’s thinking.

If  Khaya had opted for that mentality, then he would have logically said things like: ‘I am too poor, I am black, disadvantaged and live in poor conditions. Why should I even try on going in a Godly project that I can’t afford?
He (Khaya) would not try anything. That’s natural common sense.

2. Common sense that matches God’ s thinking:

On the contrary, Khaya took the stand and decided to change his natural mindset into thinking like God. As soon as he heard the Voice, he asked himself:

‘Which steps should I take to make this adorable dream come true?’

And that’s how you match common sense with faith in God. You don’t argue against Him, but rather embrace the Voice and attempt to find the right steps that will lead you into realising that dream. Too many have accepted the Voice, but have failed to achieve the dream because of their rushing excitement , lack of common sense and by not attempting to find the right steps.

Just submit your reasoning to God’s thinking and a world of impossibilities will unlock its riches towards you.

Think about yourself like God thinks about you.
