GATEKEEPERS

Is there something or someone holding you from starting ?

Have you ever tried , several times, to gain access into the success realm but were denied entrance due to lack of conventional requirements?  No matter how hard you try, you never qualify or you are simply labelled:

'Not good enough'.




It is one thing to be underqualified, but it is another thing to be refused entrance to the 'house of success' based on conventional criteria. If you are one those people who fought their way up to reach their dreams of success then surely you should be familliar with the term :' gatekeepers'. And if you never met them, chances are that you will get to know them sooner or later.

  For the purpose of my blog,  gatekeepers represent people who hold the keys to success and its rules. I compare them to judges who decide who should get in  the Hotel of success. Matching their conventional criteria, is the only way to receive a positive verdict.

You probably heard their common verdicts:' you are too old...you are too small...you are too this...and that...therefore you can't do this...'

I wonder how many exploits we would be doing if there was nobody to tell us what we can and can't do.

In my opinion,  gatekeepers play a two folded role: 'Allowing, and rejecting'.
On the positive side, they keep away incompetent and fraudsters who could endanger the safety of  the 'Hotel of Success'. They are not necessarily bad guys...And in life  we all tend to become Gatekeepers  towards our kids, family members, friends, employees...
                           
 And on the  inside of you, it is very possible that you may have mental gatekeepers in your head such as:

' When the money comes in, I will start..'
'If only I was tall...'
'If only  I was skinny, then I could...'
'I need to be...to start this...'
                          
Those invisible gatekeepers stuck in your head create myths avoiding you to start a single thing in real life.

Try something first, and find out if those myths are true...

Jennifer Hudson

So far, if you have managed to gain approvals from 'Gatekeepers', then it's great for you. But some people, no matter how good , and qualified they are, will  never get permissions to enter the 'Hotel'.
  History has recorded countless stories of successful men and women who were told that they would never succeed. Sportsmen who always sit on the bench during games, writers  always turned down by publishers, employees overlooked by their bosses ...and so on. As an example,Simon Cowell from American Idol  represents the perfect picture of a Gatekeeper. In 2004, his show the 'Idols' completely eliminated Jennifer Hudson who ended her run in the top 7.  In his critics, Simon Cowell said that Jennifer Hudson was 'out of her depth'... O.K, let's pause for a moment...

Being a Gatekeeper on the 'Idol' show does not make Mr. Cowell a bad guy. He just had his opinion like you and I could have.

Has Simon Cowell made a serious mistake?

 Probably yes, because Jennifer Hudson later turned to be one of the most successful R n B singers.\
 And probably not because the winner of the 2004 American Idol season, Fantasia, later became very successful in her career as well.


    So what should we learn from that?

 In spite of not being authorized into the final circle of Idol 2004, Jennifer Hudson made it anyway. Here is the Bottom line:

' When gatekeepers ( and there will always be gatekeepers) do not allow you to enter , it might mean that you need to improve where there is a need to. But if you are really convinced that you  qualify for admission and they still don't agree, you can still enter the place. There are many doors in the Hotel and few Gatekeepers, which means, some doors are not kept and can only be found when you persevere a little harder. The Hotel of Success is as large as Life, and no man can hold all its doors completely closed because Gatekeepers are limited and have limited capacity to guard all the doors. '

 So you have applied for so many jobs and can't get one? Apply somewhere else or try to work for yourself.
 Publishers don't like your art work? I am sure you do, which means you could be your own publisher.

You have to get started!

Remember, if you are really convinced that you are good, and they said no to you, it could mean that you are unconventional to them ( and the world). You can get started now, without their help, so stop chasing for their approvals.

The Bible says:

' Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.' (1 Cor. 1:27)
